Use a Jump Rope to Improve your Running Form
We often talk about keeping your stride vertical when you run; we want you to avoid reaching out for your next step. We’ve strayed away from the old running adage that told you to “stride out.” We want you to “Stride Up.” The jump rope will give you a nice visual that demonstrates this concept.
Start by jumping rope while you run in place. As you begin to fall forward, keep the action in your leg vertical. Keep moving your legs in the same fashion as when you were jumping rope while running in place. This drill is best done before a run; it will help your brain lay down good motor patterns.
Run while jumping rope for about 8-10 strides and stop. Turn around and repeat this drill a total of 10 times before you head out for your next run.
